Terms of use

The rules for using HackOS — for the organisations that buy it and for everyone who takes part in their events.

Last updated:

The service

HackOS is software for running hackathons: registration and approval, teams, project submissions, judging and results, certificates, announcements and chat, help requests to mentors, and the reports and exports that go with them. Which features an event has depends on the plan its organisation bought.

By creating an account or using the platform you accept these terms. If you use HackOS on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you may accept them for it.

Accounts and roles

  • Use your real name and an e-mail address at which you receive mail; we ask you to confirm it.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password — that signs out every other device — and tell us.
  • In each event you have a role — organiser, judge, mentor, volunteer or participant — and you see what that role allows. One account can have different roles in different events.

Organisers' responsibilities

  • Set and publish the rules of your event: who may take part, how projects are judged, the prizes, and what happens to the projects afterwards.
  • You decide what you collect from the people at your event and why. You are responsible for that data and for having a lawful basis to collect it; HackOS processes it on your behalf, as the privacy policy describes.
  • You are responsible for what you publish and for moderating your event's chat.
  • Invite only people who expect to hear from you.

Acceptable use

Do not use HackOS to:

  • break the law or infringe other people's rights;
  • harass, threaten or deceive anyone, or post hateful or sexually explicit material;
  • send spam or other unwanted messages;
  • upload malicious software, or files you are not allowed to share;
  • access accounts, events or data that are not yours, test or overload the service, or work around its limits.

Organisers can remove messages and mute people in their events; we can do the same anywhere on the platform.

Your content

Participants keep the rights in the projects they submit, subject to the rules set by the organiser of their event. By submitting a project you allow that organiser, its judges and its mentors to see and assess it for the event.

Organisers keep the rights in their own event content. Everyone gives HackOS only the permission it needs to store, display and deliver their content in order to run the service.

Plans and payment

Organisations pay for a plan per event or per year, as stated in their order. The price, limits and features are those shown when the order is placed and on the invoice. An order is activated only after we have reviewed it. Refunds are covered by the refund policy.

Availability and changes

We work to keep HackOS available and to fix problems quickly, but we cannot promise that it will never be interrupted. Planned maintenance is announced in a notice on the website and in the platform. Features may change as the product develops.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend an account or an organisation that breaks these terms, puts other people at risk or does not pay for its order, and we will say why. You can stop using HackOS at any time. A customer can ask us to close its organisation and delete its data — export what you need first.

Liability

HackOS is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount the customer paid for the order concerned. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows the current version, and important changes are announced in the platform. If you keep using HackOS after a change, the new terms apply to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Disputes are settled by the competent courts of the Republic of Azerbaijan, unless the law requires otherwise.
